IN THIS LESSON
Chapter 1, Lesson 2: How the Autistic Brain Takes In the World
Understand how autistic minds process information, and why timing matters
Explore sensory input and how it shapes energy, mood, and connection
Learn how social output works and why it can be so draining
Recognize body-based perception challenges, like hunger, fatigue, and emotional cues
Discover ways partners can support regulation instead of taking it personally
Reflection/Journal Prompts:
Think of a time your partner seemed to shut down or go quiet. What was happening just before, and what was the environment like?
After social events, family time, or a long workday, what does your partner usually need to recover? How do they show you they need it?
What does your partner usually do, or need from you, to feel better once they’ve reached their limit?
Have you noticed your partner missing body cues like hunger, tiredness, or rising stress until they’re overwhelmed? How could you gently help them notice sooner?
When your partner withdraws, what story do you tell yourself about it? How might that story change after this lesson?
